298 individuals were detained by the Jigawa State Police Command in the third quarter of 2023 on suspicion of criminal activity.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Lawan Shiisu, made a statement to this effect on Wednesday in Dutse.
According to him, during special operations carried out during the reviewed time, the Police found 64 rustled animals, weapons, and six kidnapped victims.
According to Shiisu, the individuals were detained for alleged crimes including robbery, fraud, kidnapping, murder, rape, vandalism, and more.
He named the accused as 25 robbers, 12 kidnappers, 36 murderers, 25 rapists, 37 thieves, 15 vandals, 17 animal rustlers, and 5 fraudsters. In addition, he said that 126 additional people had been detained for allegedly being members of a gang of brigands.
He said that the police found an AK-47 rifle, a Beretta pistol, three locally produced firearms, 48 live rounds of ammunition, 20 motor cars or bicycles, and 64 rustled animals.
In addition, 560 parcels of Cannabis Sativa and a quantity of narcotics were found.
“The crime prevention tactics used by Jigawa Police Command in the ongoing battle against all types of crimes and criminalities in the state during the period under review paid off, as the state remained generally peaceful and residents could go about their lawful business without being afraid of being harassed.
“This achievement was made possible by the proactive measures put in place by the command, whose personnel worked tirelessly to checkmate the criminals’ activities for a tranquil environment,” he said.
He praised the Jigawa administration, Mr. Kayode Egbeyokun, the acting Inspector-General of Police, and other security organizations for their assistance to the Command.
Shiisu asked state residents to aid the Police in the fight against crime while underlining the command’s commitment to protecting people and property.
