With an anticipated production of 875,000 tonnes for the National Food Reserve, the Federal Government intends to cultivate around 70,000 hectares among the states that produce wheat.
Sen. Abubakar Kyari, the honorable minister of agriculture and food security, stated that this was done to increase widespread food production and nutrition security.
At the same time, he announced that the Federal Government will provide wheat producers a 50% subsidy during the following dry season in order to increase food security and self-sufficiency.
In the approaching dry season, he declared, “We are fully committed to promoting substantial wheat production for both local and foreign export activities.”
The Minister made this disclosure during a recent courtesy visit to the Emir of Hadejia, Alhaji Adamu Abubakar-Maje, in Hadejia, Jigawa State, according to a news statement issued by Mrs. Eremah Anthonia, the Chief Information Officer, on behalf of the Director of Information in the Ministry.
He said that Jigawa State will receive 40 hectares, while the remaining 30 hectares would be distributed among the States that grow wheat.
He said that President Bola Tinubu was dedicated to improving food security by using Smart Agriculture to its fullest potential.
The minister further stated that Jigawa State’s Alhaji Umar Namadi, Governor, was determined to making Jigawa State one of the nation’s top producers of wheat.
In his reaction, the Galadima Hadejia, Alhaji Usman AbdulAziz, the Emir of Hadejia’s representative, called for the start of the wheat season in earnest and stressed that the time to begin preparing for producing wheat was now.
