The recent attempt to move railroad coaches from Borno State to other regions of Nigeria, according to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State, was done in a dubious and unjust manner.
The Governor made this statement on Tuesday while visiting the Maiduguri train station, the state capital.
Zulum remarked that the state administration was not alerted until citizens halted the coaches’ progress in a statement by his media assistant, Isa Gusau.
He continued by saying that every legal option will be taken to prevent the relocation of state-owned infrastructure.
He claims that without the knowledge of the security personnel or the government of Borno State, certain rolling stock were transferred to other parts of the federation around five months ago.
This time, the transit of this rolling stock from Maiduguri to other regions of the nation caused the people to raise an alert.
“When we contacted the management of Nigerian Railway Corporation, they said the rolling stocks would be moved to Jos for a complete overhaul and be dispatched elsewhere”, he continued.
According to Zulum, the Nigerian Railway Corporation “pursued the decision to relocate the rail infrastructures in a crude manner.”
He asked neighborhood members who recently protested the construction to remain calm and refrain from using force.
