Singer Aniji Shedrack Chidubem, nicknamed Sanij-D, was detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday for allegedly scamming Susan Mclean of £9,300.
The Nigerian performer was accused of defrauding American Diana Rosado Gonzalax of $2,000 as well.
Following reliable information on the operations of an online fraud gang, Sanij-D was apprehended in the Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
According to the EFCC, the singer, best known for the singles “Profesy” and “Katalina,” reportedly impersonated Christopher Rossi, a marine engineer who works in Singapore to repair boats and pipes.
“He used Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram applications with foreign phone numbers as his fraudulent means of perpetrating and defrauding his victims,” the EFCC claimed.
Sanij-D will be charged as soon as the inquiry is over, according to the anti-graft agency.
