Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is being contested in court, according to the Young Progressives Party (YPP).
The YPP National Publicity Secretary, Egbeola Wale-Martins, said this while speaking to reporters on Friday in Abuja.
According to reports, Ubah joined the APC on Thursday.
The YPP National Publicity Secretary, however, insisted that Ubah should not have departed when he might have assisted in consolidating the victories of the party at the general elections of 2023 and said that Ubah’s defection to the APC was not the result of irreconcilable differences.
“The news that Senator Ifeanyi Ubah has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is disheartening, particularly at a time when we ought to be building on our victories in the recently completed general election.
“We should be putting together a strong opposition to take on the irresponsible ruling party that is to blame for the numerous problems that Nigerians are currently experiencing.
“Ubah may have switched parties to the APC for a variety of reasons, but one of them is unavoidably not irreparable disagreements inside the party.
And howling wolf where there is none is unnecessary, he added.
There was no need, according to the YPP official, for those who departed to try to de-market the party at the expense of millions of supporters and members.
“We are prepared to investigate all available possibilities within the bounds of the law and are aware of the legal ramifications of his action.
“Following the National Working Committee’s meeting to make decisions about the next steps. In the upcoming days, further details on this issue would be made public, he promised.
It is important to note, according to Wale-Martins, that the party’s leadership has consistently supported all candidates who campaigned for office and were successful, not just Ubah.
He declared that as long as the party’s members remain steadfast in their commitment to the organization, the party’s leadership is eager to continue offering the necessary assistance to them.
Therefore, we denounce the APC for its looting of political parties in an effort to turn Nigeria into a one-party state, which is bad for the development of democracy.
“The President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led APC should concentrate more on solving the myriad challenges confronting the nation rather than this desperate suffocation of opposition political parties,” he stated.
