Following the arrest of two suspects, Chinonso Eze and Victory Ebomuche, on October 4, 2023, in connection with a case of criminal conspiracy, identity theft, and computer-related fraud, the Nigeria Police Force claimed it had achieved another significant milestone in the fight against cybercrime and related offenses.
According to the police, Eze and Ebomuche, who are 18 and 24, respectively, were detained at their home in the Agua Marina Estate neighborhood of Apo, Abuja.
This was said in a statement released on Friday by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Headquarters, Abuja, Public Relations Officer.
The arrest, according to Adejobi, was the result of extensive investigation efforts and demonstrated the Force’s unwavering dedication to sustaining the highest standards of professionalism in the fight against cybercrime.
He stated: “This operation showed a complicated web of cybercriminal activities, mostly centered around online investment fraud and romantic frauds. Such actions not only take advantage of people but also seriously endanger the cybersecurity of our country.
We have located possible victims connected to the suspects as part of our ongoing operations, and we’re working hard to reduce both immediate and remote cyber dangers.
At the conclusion of the inquiry, the suspects will be charged in court, he added.
The Nigeria Police Force, meanwhile, declared that it was committed to defending the country’s digital environment and would value the public’s ongoing support and cooperation in its efforts to combat cybercrime.
In response to the news, DCP Uche Ifeanyi Henry, director of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre, was praised for his substantial accomplishments by the inspector general of police, Kayode Egbetokun.
According to Adejobi, Egbetokun stressed the vital significance of being vigilant and exercising caution when participating in online interactions in his address.
The IGP added asked the online community to check the legitimacy of new connections, use caution when making financial commitments, and notify the authorities right once of any suspicious conduct.
