The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has come under fire from the senator who represents Borno South Senatorial District, Ali Ndume, for allowing the approval of some executive measures without consulting other senators.
In a video posted on Thursday, Ndume criticized the Senate President for adopting several laws without a formal reading or input from the members.
Senator Ogoshi Onawo of the Peoples Democratic Party, who represents Nasarawa State, criticized Akpabo for trying to rush through some laws.
He said, “Very sensitive bills have been submitted and are anticipated to be enacted with lightning speed, which is bad for the country.
“Every senator here is expected to be fully informed; he conducts his research and offers helpful input, but it wouldn’t be better for the nation if even money legislation were presented and expected to be enacted in less than two hours.
Sir, you are in this position now; history will judge you that doing things like this is bad for this nation, he remarked.
On the other hand, Akpabio responded to Onawo’s remark by saying, “If the laws we adopt are good for the country, history will judge me right. We wouldn’t likely come together to pass a bill that is detrimental to Nigerians’ interests, in my opinion. Your point of order has so been noticed.
