The ministry would reconstitute the anti-quackery task team on healthcare, according to Dr. Egbe Ayuk, the Cross River State commissioner of health.
The commissioner expressed shock at the alarming rise in medical quackery and other wrongdoing in the state.
When a delegation from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) visited him in his office in Calabar, he talked.
He announced that the anti-quackery task force would be reestablished, and that the State regulatory agencies would be reformed and retrained.
He pointed out that reactivating the task group will make it easier to adequately confront the malpractice in the healthcare industry.
He said, “We wish to invite owners of private hospitals, clinics, maternity homes, pharmacies, patent medicine suppliers, and mortuaries among others to update their licenses in addition to reactivating the anti-quackery task force. We anticipate their cooperation in the real spirit of cooperation.
Earlier, Mr. Richard Anichuku, team leader and coordinator of NAFDAC in Cross River State, expressed gratitude to the State Government for the support provided to his organization in the state and made a commitment to bolster the partnership through training and ongoing joint operations with Cross River State stakeholders.
Through frequent joint operations with stakeholders and training, he emphasized, “We would like to strengthen our relationship with the state government.”
