The House of Representatives was applauded for sending the Peace Corps Bill to the Senate for approval by Mr. Dickson Akor, the National Commandant of the Nigerian Peace Corps.
In Abuja, Akor made the compliment in response to the House of Representatives passing the bill.
Reports state that Thursday’s bill approval was the third effort to bring the establishment measure into law.
A bill for an Act to Establish Nigerian Peace Corps to Facilitate Peace, Volunteerism, Community Services, Neighbourhood Watch, and Nation Building is the name of the proposed law.
Akor stated that the House of Representatives would be passing the bill for the third time, proving the necessity of the corps’ creation.
He added that the National Assembly’s consideration of the matter was justified and that the peace corps was able to address the socioeconomic problems facing young people in Nigeria.
The peace corps will improve Nigeria’s security infrastructure, and the passage will give the vast majority of our members newfound optimism.
Under the direction of Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, the House of Representatives handled the bill quickly, and for that, he stated, “we are forever thankful.
He noted that the last attempt, which failed to win the former President Muhammadu Buhari’s approval, wasn’t the result of any concerns with the bill that had been pointed out.
He claimed that the Bill was delivered just before the president left the building.
Reports claim that Majority Leader of the House Julius Ihonvbere indicated during a plenary session that if the measure was passed, it would promote volunteerism.
He continued by saying that it will increase young engagement in Nigeria and lower crime.
