Senator Godswill Akpabio, president of the Senate, has urged journalists to properly care for their health requirements while doing their reporting jobs.
In response to the passing of Alhaji Tijani Adeyemi of Tribune Newspapers, a member of the Senate Press Corps, Akpabio delivered the advise on Tuesday during a condolence visit.
Recall that Hon. Henry Umoru of Vanguard Newspapers, another member of the Corps, also lost his mother and wife two weeks ago.
The Senate President, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, advised journalists to treat the adage “health is wealth” seriously and avoid putting health-related issues on the back burner.
“Health is wealth, they say, and I implore you to take this seriously,” he remarked. I get how difficult it might be to deliver the news, but you must always be mindful of your requirements in terms of your health.
Instead of coming here to offer my condolences, I would much rather be celebrating with you in excellent health. Therefore, he said, “Don’t wait until you’re sick to seek medical assistance; instead, try to go in for a checkup to prevent any deterioration in your health state.
He volunteered to work with the Press Corps to improve health requirements so that journalists could get regular medical exams and healthcare practices.
In order to have a facility for medical checkups, he said, “I want a situation where we could have an understanding, where you can walk individually or as a group once in a while.”
The Vice Chairman, Mr. Sanni Onogu, responded on behalf of the press corps and thanked the Senate President for his consideration and concern.
Onogu also thanked Akpabio for giving the Corps a new press center and urged him to keep helping them do their duties more effectively.
