Alfa Fasasi Ola Mejabi, an imam, and his younger brother were taken hostage in Kogi State by unidentified gunmen.
When they encountered the abductors on Sunday, the cleric and others were transporting the body of Sheikh Musa Olorunkemi, the Chief Imam of Ayegunle Gbede, from Lokoja to Ayegunle Gbede in Ijumu local government of Kogi state for burial.
The event happened at Oshokoshoko along the Lokoja-Obajana-Kabba route, according to one of the car’s passengers who managed to avoid being kidnapped.
He explained that the late Sheikh Musa, who passed away on Sunday morning following a brief illness, was being carried in a vehicle that was passing their vehicles.
The victims’ telephone lines had been disconnected since their kidnapping, a source informed Kogi Reports, but they also claimed that the kidnappers contacted the family on Monday morning and demanded a N10 million ransom for the victims’ release.
Commodore Jerry Omadara, the state’s security adviser, who confirmed the event, said that security personnel in the state are making every effort to free the hostages from the kidnapper’s hideout.
It’s true, he said, but security personnel were pursuing them in an effort to free them and apprehend their kidnappers.
