The Federal Government has been instructed to take all necessary measures to prevent a countrywide strike by the Organized Private Sector of Nigeria, or OPSN.
The organization issued a warning that Nigeria could not afford another strike and noted that the economic indications were not favorable.
This was said in a statement released by the group on Sunday, in which it begged the Tinubu government and the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, to reach a fair compromise.
Remembers that the Nigerian Labour Congress’s 21-day deadline to begin an indefinite strike expired on Friday.
On Wednesday, the top labor group will meet to decide when the indefinite strike would start.
The economy, plainly expressed, cannot currently afford a statewide strike since the economic signs are not promising.
“We have closely followed the back-and-forth discussions between the government and the NLC and TUC,” the statement reads.
“It is clear that the federal government’s repeated consultations with labor unions have not produced fruitful outcomes, and the latter have resolved, in one way or another, to proceed with the protest/strike,” it added.
OPSN expressed concern that the government and labor unions were not paying enough attention to the terrible state of the nation’s economy.
The country also questioned if the labor unions were taking into account the devastating/disruptive effects that a countrywide strike would have at this time.
“One is beginning to wonder if the well-being of more than 200 million Nigerians is being factored into their negotiations,” it said.
