In an act of protest over the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria’s (RTEAN) decision to suspend operations in September 2022, members of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, Lagos chapter stormed the Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday.
As the issue is already in court, the Lagos State Government called with the organization to embrace discussion rather than conflict.
The State Government has referred to the TUC’s planned protest as a violation of the law. The state stated: “Considering all the efforts being made to address the situation amicably, it’s an attempt to arm-twist and threaten the administration.
In a previous statement, Gbenga Omotoso, the commissioner for information and strategy, emphasized that “there is no need for the protest.”
But on Monday, the irate members stormed the Lagos Assembly Complex in Alausa, Ikeja, waving banners bearing diverse slogans.
They surrounded the assembly complex in force and sang songs of solidarity as they did so.
