Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, the governor of Benue State, has denounced the kidnapping of Mr. Matthew Abo, the commissioner for information, culture, and tourism, and Mr. Iorwashina Eurkaa, the former chairman of Ukum Local Government Area, by unidentified gunmen.
He gave the assurance that the state’s security forces and authorities were trying to free them from the kidnappers’ lair.
At around 8 p.m. on Sunday, Abo was taken hostage by unidentified gunmen at his Sankara house, while Erukaa was taken hostage on Saturday.
Erukaa’s family has heard from the kidnappers, who transported the pair to unspecified locations; Abo’s family has not yet heard from them.
The governor called the crime savage, condemnable, and unacceptable in a statement from Sir Tersoo Kula, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary.
According to Kula, the governor has already instructed security services to start working right once to secure the duo’s safe release.
The governor also urged residents of the state to maintain their composure, the statement said, as his government will make every effort to ensure everyone’s safety.
