To eliminate bottlenecks in Nigeria’s passport issue and collecting process, the Federal Government has started changes.
The European Union (EU) Ambassador to Nigeria, Samuela Isopi, was hosted by Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo over the weekend in Abuja.
Tunji-Ojo gave the assurance that the government will take steps to curtail identity theft in order to restore the pride and integrity of the Nigerian passport.
He claims that initiatives are being taken to reduce the number of inmates in Nigeria’s prisons by 40% using non-custodial measures.
He urged the EU to assist the continent in overcoming its myriad problems.
We have started the effort to remove the bottlenecks in our procedure for collecting and applying for overseas passports, he added. We have come a long way today. Additionally, we are exploring methods to lessen identity theft. We’re working to restore the honor and integrity of the green passport.
“Africa will benefit if we can address the migration and crime issues in Nigeria.”
Isopi, for her part, promised cooperation from the EU through technological management of smuggling, human trafficking, and illegal migration.
