On Monday, the Federal Government acknowledged that the majority of Nigeria’s issues were the result of poor leadership on the part of the country’s leaders.
However, the government praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its wise choice regarding the Central Bank of Nigeria, noting that the result of an audit by a special investigator will be released shortly.
According to a source, Tinubu designated Jim Obazee, the CEO of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, as the CBN’s special investigator in a letter dated July 28, 2023.
The Special Investigator will directly report to the President’s office, the President instructed the Special Investigator to look into CBN and other significant Government Business Entities.
According to the fundamental goal stated in Section 15(5) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) Constitution, the letter stated: “To further the fight against corruption, this administration is today appointing you as a Special Investigator, to investigate the CBN and Related Entities. You are to arrive in my office immediately in accordance with this appointment.
George Akume, the secretary to the government of the federation and a former governor of Benue State, responded to questions from journalists at a press conference in Abuja on the 63rd anniversary of Nigeria’s independence by saying that Nigerians would eventually understand what actually went wrong and what led the nation to its current predicament.
The majority of the issues we are currently facing are the result of poor governance, he claimed. These issues have been and are still being faced by the current administration. At the CBN, President Bola Tinubu made a wise choice when he joined. According to analysts, that one action caused the capital market to significantly improve, something they said could never have happened in the previous 15 years.
“We have a new team at the CBN, and a special investigator has been working there for a while; his findings will soon be made public, and Nigerians will know what really went wrong and what led us to where we are today.”
He said that no international leaders had been invited to Nigeria’s 63rd anniversary of independence on October 1 because the country preferred a low-key commemoration.
Low key celebration has nothing to do with whether or not we’re doing well, he said. Economic conditions are difficult; we are considering them not just on a national level but also on a household level. There are no international leaders here. We have not invited any foreign leaders; 53 world leaders attended the President’s inauguration.
“As you are aware, in keeping with the current economic climate, the President has granted his consent for this 63rd anniversary to be low-key. The anniversary’s slogan is “Nigeria @ 63, Renewed Hope for Unity & Prosperity.”
Speaking on matters of national importance, he remarked, “Despite our differences, we have all agreed to live in a peaceful, unified, and successful country. Without these, no country can advance. The government guards against any threats to our national interests.
He claims that the celebration is especially significant now since the country has maintained an uninterrupted democratic record since 1999 and has had a smooth, successful, and peaceful presidential transition program.
The SGF declared: “Despite political earthquakes and a wave of coups in several ECOWAS sub-regional countries, Nigerians have completely accepted democracy with its basic principles and procedures as the finest form of government. Through democratic institutions and procedures, citizens have the chance to actively engage in the affairs of their nation.
In a representative democracy, the connection between the people and the government is symbiotic: while the citizens support the government, it also offers security, upholds their interests, and promotes them.
“The administration is well aware of the economic difficulties Nigerians are experiencing as a result of the elimination of the gasoline subsidy and the effects of the global economic slump. The government is actively trying to offer the required palliatives in order to lessen these difficulties, as well as buses to make transit easier, among other things. In order to address issues that are relevant to the wellbeing of all Nigerian employees and Nigerians in general, the government is also interacting with the labor movement.
The Renewed Hope Agenda, which will increase food security, ensure an end to poverty, improve security, promote economic growth and the creation of jobs, increase access to capital, level the playing field on which people and particularly businesses operate, uphold the rule of law, and combat corruption, is the reason this government, led by His Excellency, Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is implementing it.
The event’s schedule of events included an anniversary symposium and public lecture on September 28, 2023, at the State House Conference Center, a lecture on September 29, 2023, at the National Mosque Conference Center, starting at 10 am, and Juma’at Prayer at the National Mosque, beginning at 1 pm.
Akume also announced the following events: a military parade on Monday, October 2, 2023, at the Presidential Villa, at 9am; a multi-denominational church service on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at the National Christian Center; and a presidential broadcast on Sunday, October 12023, at 7am.
“Therefore, I urge you, as journalists and patriots, to back this administration and forge a successful alliance in order to turn our nation into the land of our dreams. Additionally, I rely on you to spread the word about the events planned to celebrate Nigeria’s 63rd year of independence, he said.
