The release of the four leaders of the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) by the Nigerian Police was verified by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Friday.
In an interview in Abuja, NLC President Joe Ajaero verified the release.
The authorities spent more than a month in detention before being freed on Thursday night, according to Ajaero.
The National President, Tajudeen Baruwa, the General Secretary, Anthony Chukudi, Olayi Odion, the National Trustee, and Principal Assistant Secretary, Abdulrasak Yemi were among the officials that were freed.
Recalls that on August 31, at its meeting, the National Executive Council (NEC) criticized the Police’s conduct and demanded the release of the NURTW leadership.
This was a demand made by the NLC during the two-day countrywide warning strike that took place on September 5 and 6.
