Pastor Patience Umo Eno, the wife of the governor of Akwa Ibom State, has urged local farmers to use modern farming techniques and recycle garbage in order to protect the environment from further deterioration.
Mrs. Eno made the plea on Thursday during the 8th anniversary celebration of the Family Empowerment and Youth Re-Orientation Path-initiative (FEYReP), a nonprofit organization founded by Dr. Martha Udom Emmanuel, the wife of the late governor of Akwa Ibom State.
Pastor Patience Eno, who was represented by Dr. Ini Adiakpan, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, urged farmers, particularly women farmers, to make significant adaptations and adopt the new method of farming.
She said, “You have to make a lot of customization for the women. Modern methods of cultivation must take precedence over conventional methods. Additionally, we now practice dry season farming as a buffer against the consequences of climate change.
“Polythene usage has to be examined. Because these are major climate change challenges, we should start at home by learning to sort our trash into recyclables and materials that can be burned.
However, she applauded the former First Lady for continuing to make a difference in people’s lives through FEYRep even after leaving her position as the Governor’s wife and congratulated her on the official launch of the Climate Change For All Initiative, a subsidiary of FEYReP, to raise awareness about global warming.
The Climate Action for All Initiative was unveiled by the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, who said that FEReP’s foray into climate change shows the initiative’s interest in current global issues and activities aimed at protecting the environment.
