The Anambra State Police Command has vowed to detain anyone spreading outdated recordings of attacks on security personnel in an effort to spread panic throughout the state.
DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the state police command’s police public relations officer (PPRO), made this claim in a press statement.
Ikenga claimed that certain persons have been disseminating footage of a previous attack on soldiers in Umunze under the pretense that they happened recently in an effort to depict the state as unstable.
The statement read: “The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has labeled as “enemies of the people” anybody spreading old videos of a commercial bus burning at Nanka and a soldier being killed at Umunze, both of which occurred last year during the gloomy times of insecurity.
“The Commissioner of Police has cautioned purveyors of false alarm who attempt to instill fear in the public by spreading rumors that they will be held accountable after describing the practice of recycling such outdated video clips as nasty propaganda.
The Nigeria Police Force’s Cybercrime Unit has been tasked by the commissioner to find out who is using outdated films to incite fear and panic among the public.
“He wants to reassure Ndi Anambra that the Police and sister security organizations will always go above and beyond to protect them from agents of darkness who don’t have their best interests or the interests of the country in mind.
He urged Ndi Anambra to ignore the films and refrain from assisting the spread of them by opponents of progress.
