Hundreds of young people gathered on key streets in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, to demonstrate against the passing of Nigerian musician Promise Oladimeji Aloba (also known as MohBad-Imole).
The purpose of the demonstration, which included chants and demands for justice, was to raise awareness of the circumstances behind Mohbad’s death and demand redress.
Concerned youngsters and followers of the late artist planned the demonstration, which began at the well-known NEPA roundabout. They then marched via the Oba Adesida road-Cathedral intersection before continuing on to the Arakale route.
As the demonstration moved across the city of Akure, its momentum swelled and more young people joined the cause. In addition to the actual rally, protestors used a number of social media sites, using hashtags like #JusticeForMohBad, to emphasise their complaints.
Shortly after playing at an event in Ikorodu, MohBad, an afrobeat artist in the Nigerian music business, passed away approximately a week ago.
His untimely death shocked the nation, leaving fans and fellow performers inconsolable, and many people believe foul play was involved in the events leading up to his departure.
Yemi Afolabi, one of the demonstrators, claimed that Mohbad was a promising artist whose beacon was put out of commission when he was just starting out.
We connected with his music, and he had a bright career ahead of him. We can’t accept his passing without explanations. Justice must be served for Mohbad.
Nobody will be able to accept what transpired. Before he was slain, Mohbad disclosed all the people who had tormented and sought to kill him.
“There are several videos that show him being bullied, attacked, and degraded. He even petitioned the police about all he was going through, but nothing happened until he passed away,” he claimed.
The demonstrators demanded that the inquiry into Mohbad’s killing be completed quickly and that those responsible be brought to justice.
They underlined the necessity for an open, unbiased investigation that is free from improper influence or deception.
