In the course of Operation Hadin Kai, a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft destroyed a weapons truck and eight terrorists on Wednesday in the Borno hamlet of Baranga.
The strike was carried out while on an armed reconnaissance operation in the region, according to a statement made in Abuja by Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the NAF’s director of public relations and information.
The airstrike, according to Gabkwet, was part of a protracted offensive against terrorist remnants in the North East.
He claimed that the opportunity strike materialised out of the blue as two armed terrorists on a motorbike were being pursued down a busy track.
After spotting the aircraft, the terrorists reportedly took refuge under a dense cover of forest, according to Gabkwet. He also added that an eight-terrorist gun truck suddenly appeared and sped off to avoid the aircraft.
The gun truck was then engaged and destroyed, taking out the terrorists.
In order to avoid being discovered by the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security services, terrorist remnants in the Northeast continue to seek the protection of dense forests and flora.
The AFN’s dedication to making sure terrorists find it impossible to attack law-abiding Nigerians at random is demonstrated once more by this incident, the official said.
