The Kano State Governorship Election Tribunal is scheduled to rule on a case brought before it by the All-Progressives Congress, APC, and its candidate in the March 18 election, but journalists were denied entry to the courthouse on Wednesday.
Recalls that Nasir Gawuna, the APC candidate for governor in the Kano election, had filed a lawsuit to overturn Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria People Party, NNPP, as the winner as determined by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
On the petition that the APC and its candidate filed today, the court is scheduled to provide a ruling.
However, some journalists who flocked to the location to cover the event were turned away.
Usaini Muhammed Gumel, the commissioner of police for Kano State, said that the court had only allowed 50 individuals to attend.
He stated, “Since yesterday, we phoned the tribunal Secretary to inquire about the plans for the sitting, and they advised us that just 50 persons would be admitted.
Judges, lawyers from both sides and their supporters, journalists, and members of the media are all included in the total. Therefore, it was not the police that restricted the number.
