The Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Enugu’s staff members disavowed a recent demonstration held at the hospital’s entrance.
A coalition of civil society organisations, according to a source, planned the rally.
In contrast, the hospital employees’ unions told media on Tuesday that no staff member had participated in the aforementioned demonstration.
The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, the Association of Resident Doctors, the Joint Health Sector Union, the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria, and the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria, of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu, are among them.
The problems were discussed with the media by Dr. Jane Nnabuchi of MDCAN, Dr. Mbachu Ferguson of ARD, and Comrade Obinna Eze of JOHESU.
According to the employees, some people rather recruited touts to undermine the facility.
The employees refuted what they called “the stage-managed protest by a group of HIRED THUGS that called themselves Civil Society Organisation (CSO) alleging that there is no peace in the Hospital and that the workers are unhappy along with other allegations levelled against the Medical Director Prof. Monday Igwe in a joint press release they issued.
We thus announce unequivocally that the information is untrue and that it was intentionally created to confuse and mislead the public.
“There is no crisis in our hospital, Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Enugu,” the staff proclaimed.
“That the staff at our hospital appreciates Prof. Monday Igwe’s leadership and that the hospital is peaceful.”
That thugs hired to harm and undermine the reputation of the Medical Director and the operations of our hospital carried out the staged demonstration on August 30, 2023.
“We wish to challenge everyone who appears in the protest film to show verification of their status as an employee of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Enugu or a student at the School of Post Basic Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing.
Normally, we would have disregarded the article and the people who had committed this heinous and pointless deed, but we are responding to stop them from deceiving the public and, more importantly, to put the facts in the right context.
They demanded a halt to further harassment of the Medical Director and brought up a recent hospital incident.
“The incident caused a scene, interfered with hospital community activities, and threatened to get worse if Enugu State Police Command hadn’t intervened.
Since Prof. Monday Igwe took over as leader in 2019, the staff members have experienced peace, infrastructure development, and human capacity growth.
The Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu’s members of the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU), the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), and the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), “distance ourselves from and condemn that stage-managed protest of August 30, 2023, as well as the attempted abduction “arrest” of our Medical Director on Thursday, September 14, 2023,” the statement reads.
