Ja’afar Adamu, 36, was detained by the Adamawa State Police Command for reportedly raping his 21-year-old neighbor’s wife at the Anguwan Diocese Kala’a in the Hong Local Government Area.
This information was provided by SP Suleiman Nguroje, Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in a statement released on Tuesday in Yola.
According to Nguroje, the suspect was detained on September 15.
“The suspect is said to have forcedfully had an undue carnal knowledge of the victim on the same date, about Noon, after seeing his absence from the victim’s farm.
Investigation has so far shown that the suspect was carrying a knife and wearing a black face mask when he threatened the victim to comply with his demands.
“Unfortunately for him, upon committing the act, his mask fell off, had been recognised by the victim, he fled away through the window,” he claimed.
The victim’s husband, according to him, reported the event to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Kala’a.
Nguroje said that Mr. Afolabi Babatola, the commissioner of police, expressed displeasure over the obnoxious occurrence and gave the officer in charge of the Family Support Unit instructions to take over the investigation and guarantee thorough prosecution of the offender.
The police chief, who expressed sympathy for the victim’s husband over the tragic situation, also urged the general public to support the Command’s efforts to combat all types of gender-based violence, he added.
