To guarantee efficiency, the number of standing committees in the House was raised from 109 to 134, according to Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker of the House of Representatives.
This was said by Abbas on Tuesday while speaking with reporters who were covering the House.
He pointed out that the House also established a committee to make sure its legislative agenda is followed.
“You’ll concur with me that historically not all committees were active for a variety of reasons. We want to make sure that every standing committee fulfils its obligation this time around. Every permanent committee needs to be demonstrated as being involved in improving Nigeria, he added.
According to the speaker, the original committee on tertiary education had too many institutions and was over-supervising, therefore it was split into various committees.
I’ll use the committee on tertiary education as an illustration. In the past, it was comprised of more than 300 organisations. Within the year, they won’t be able to support the agencies, he claimed.
