Olukayode Ariwoola, the Chief Justice of the Federation, urged judges and justices on Monday to stay current with problems in the telecom sector to ensure fair adjudication.
The Chief Judge gave a speech at the National Workshop on Telecom Issues for Judges and Justices in 2023, which was held in Kano and was sponsored by the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) and the National Judicial Institute (NJI).
The event, he claimed, comes at an ideal time given the development of the telecom sector.
The difficulties facing the communication sector will be discussed at the event, according to Ariwoola, and strategies for overcoming them would be improved.
He said the workshop, themed “The Adjudication Path in a Digital Era”, would play a vital role in building the capacity of judges and justices with a view to achieve the desired goals.
In his remark, the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof.Umar Danbatta said the workshop was aimed at ensuring fair adjudication on issues related to communication.
He said: ” This workshop has been an annual event for almost a decade and the idea behind its conduct is to bring members of the judiciary up to speed with knowledge on the telecom issue.
”This is to ensure that when cases regarding the telecom industry arise there will be speed in the administration of justice because they are abreast with the issues.”
Danbatta further stated that the NCC was assiduously pursuing the reform of the Nigerian Telecommunications Act.
The National Judicial Institute’s administrator, justice salisu garba, had earlier stated that the workshop would be crucial in creating a foundation for rules governing the communications sector.
He emphasised to the attendees the importance of fully utilising the training’s experiential learning opportunities.(NAN)
