In order to reduce highway accidents, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Command, has recommended drivers to follow traffic laws.
The advise was given in an interview on Monday in Ota, Ogun, by Mr. Anthony Uga, Ogun Sector Commander of the Corps.
According to NAN, the FRSC responded to a collision involving a DAF truck with the number plate KMC 810 ZB, a Toyota Hiace bus with the registration number TMA 244 XA, and an unlicensed Mitsubishi pickup.
The accident that occurred near Foursquare Camp, Ajebo, on the Lagos-Ibadan Motorway on Sunday morning has left five people confirmed dead and 12 others reportedly wounded.
Uga pointed out that if the drivers had followed the laws of the road, the accident may have been avoided.
He urged drivers to keep traffic laws and regulations front of mind since doing so would help to significantly increase the safety of people and property on the roads.
The FRSC is urging drivers to exercise caution and common sense when driving, especially during downpours, in order to avoid traffic accidents.
“They should make sure that their automobiles are mechanically sound and that all of their vehicle’s parts are in good working order.
Additionally, he added, drivers must get enough sleep-in order to be psychologically fit to operate their automobiles safely.
