Muhammed Umar Abubakar has been named the new Customs Area Controller for the Katsina Customs Command by Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the acting Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service. On September 13, 2023, Compt. Umar formally succeeded Compt. MN Musa.
SC In a statement he released on Friday, Tahir Balarabe, the Customs Public Relations Officer for the Command, acknowledged the development.
Comptroller Umar is from Bauchi State and graduated from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaira, with a Bachelor of Arts in History. When he joined the Customs Service in 1989 as an Assistant Superintendent of Customs, his career in the agency officially began. He has continuously expanded his knowledge throughout the years by participating in a variety of domestic and foreign training programmes. His commitment to pursuing professional development is highlighted by his status as a Fellow of the Institute of Strategic Management, Nigeria.
The declaration emphasises Comptroller Umar’s broad experience in a variety of Customs formations, units, and departments, giving the Katsina Customs Command hope that he will advance the Command’s primary goals of generating revenue, facilitating trade, and suppressing smuggling activities.
At the Customs Headquarters in Abuja, Comptroller Umar held the position of Acting Comptroller Special Duties before being named Customs Area Controller. Additionally, he held important controller posts in the Plateau, Nassarawa, Benue, and Kano/Jigawa. He held the position of Comptroller Admin in the Zone B Kaduna Zonal Headquarters till his most recent posting.
Comptroller Umar Abubakar commended the Acting Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and the whole management team for the chance to serve as the controller of the Katsina Area Command. In his new position, he vowed to preserve the highest levels of professionalism and work ethics.
