Following allegations of harassment and extortion by some naval officers, THE Concerned Citizens yesterday pleaded with President Bola Tinubu to help residents of Badagry in Lagos State.
In a statement, Mr. James Wusu, president of the Concerned Citizens, said that these cops had caused mayhem in the neighbourhood by acting while intoxicated, which had turned away consumers from the petrol stations.
“These men in uniform go from one petrol station to another, shooting randomly to frighten customers and attendants,” the statement read. They rob people of their phones and extort money. The fuel station employees who are performing their legal obligations now live in constant terror.
According to Wusu, these navy officials’ legal obligations do not include extorting money from the attendants and their clients in order to get fuel; rather, they are required to guard the territorial seas and stop illegal fishing.
In order to prevent a collapse in law and order, he said, the crisis might have been avoided. He stated, “We have repeatedly reported this concern to numerous security services without success. In order to prevent a collapse in law and order, we are pleading with Mr. President to utilise his good offices to summon these disobedient soldiers in military.
