A 20-year-old University of Lagos student is accused of being raped by Associate Professor Kadiri Babalola. This accusation has been corroborated to newsmen by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the public relations officer for the Lagos State Police.
An employee of the Lagos State Police Command detained the lecturer, an associate professor of botany, for allegedly raping a female student at the university.
When the 20-year-old student, whose identity is being suppressed, went to the lecturer’s office to discuss problems with her results, she accused Babalola of perpetrating the crime.
The victim, who reported the alleged attack on August 16, 2023, to the Inclusive Social Welfare and Empowerment Foundation, it was discovered.
The UNILAG Vice-Chancellor was given a seven-day deadline to produce the professor after the NGO later reported the case to the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command. This prompted the Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, to issue an arrest warrant for Babalola through the state High Court.
Additionally, it was reported that Babalola confessed to the crime when the Vice-Chancellor called him in for interrogation.
In a phone interview with Vanguard, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the public relations officer for the Lagos State Police, confirmed the occurrence and said, “He has been arrested and is currently in our custody; he will be arraigned in court in the coming days, and we will keep the public informed.”
