Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has been instructed to begin his plan to destroy structures that were not part of the original Master Plan for Abuja from the palace, Aso Villa.
On Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday night, Atiku Abubakar’s presidential campaign spokeswoman Daniel Bwala challenged the minister on his threat to demolish buildings.
Bwala suggested that the President’s mansion and certain other official properties must be destroyed as well if the original Master Plan of the FCT is to be implemented.
He pointed out that the minister might concentrate on a lot more essential things than demolish buildings.
“The FCT is an Administration, not like the Ministry of Works. The Administration of the FCT is composed of a lot more significant things than destruction, according to Bwala.
“Let’s even begin the destruction. Wike stated that he wants to return to the first Master Plan. If we are talking about the original Master Plan, let me inform you that the Aso Villa, where the President resides and holds official duties, was not included in the original Master Plan and had to be demolished.
“Secondly, none of the military barracks that you can see in the FCT were included in the original Master Plan; therefore, all of them need to be demolished.”
Thirdly, the well-known Asokoro you are hearing about and the extension where all of Nigeria’s governors have liaison offices or private residences were not part of the original concept and must be removed. There are other federal structures and assets in key locations that weren’t included in the initial master plan, he claimed.
The leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, however, admitted that Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, is capable of doing his duties as a minister and advised him to cool off and complete tasks without resistance.
