The win of Representative Martins Esin in the National Assembly Election on February 18 was affirmed by the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, which is located in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Esin represents the Oron/Mbo/Okobo/Udung Uko/Urueoffong Oruko Federal Constituency in the Red Chamber. Esin ran on the Peoples Democratic Party ticket.
The House Committee on Youth Development is also led by him.
The tribunal Judge, Justice Kudirat Jose, handed down a ruling on a petition filed by Mr. Robinson Edumoh and the All-Progressives Congress on Friday. He held that the petitioner could not prove any of his claims regarding overvoting, the failure to electronically transmit results, pervasive irregularities, and failure to comply with Electoral Act provisions.
Regarding the accusation of excessive voting, the tribunal found that the petitioner had just stated the claim without making any effort to substantiate it. It also concluded that the petitioner had the burden of evidence and was not permitted by law to transfer it to the respondent.
The tribunal judge found that while mentioning pertinent Electoral Act sections, the legislation did not require the electronic transmission of election results.
The judge ruled that the petitioner was unable to establish a discrepancy between the results announced at voting places and those at the Local Government collation Centres.
As a result, the judge denied the petition and ruled that Martins Esin was legitimately elected.
