The Chuba Okadigbo Airport runway is being upgraded to international standards, according to the Ebonyi State Government, in an effort to prevent plane crashes.
Expats have been hired to rebuild the airport runway, according to Dr. Ngozi Obichukwu, the state commissioner for aviation and technology.
The Chuba Okadigbo Airport’s runway is being upgraded from concrete to standard asphalting, according to Obichukwu, in order to improve the operation of international airlines and other flight operations at the airport.
She said that Governor Nwifuru had enlisted a significant number of security organisations to safeguard people’s lives and property, particularly tourists, and had guaranteed international airlines a sufficient level of safe landings at the airport.
“The runway is concrete, not asphalt,” stated Obichukwu. In order to evaluate how the runway may be updated to meet international standards, Governor Francis Nwifuru swiftly despatched specialists who are competent in the building of runways.
“The foreigners are here, and as you can see, they’re working really hard to make sure the runway satisfies international standards. When United Nigeria Airways landed, they asked that the asphalting be changed from concrete to standard.
To make sure that the runway is built to international standards, Governor Francis Nwifuru has started talking with the CCECC and CDC construction firms.
She urged tourists to exercise patience as the runway renovation will soon be finished, adding that “Chuba Okadigbo’s airport has overtaken other Airports in the South East region, therefore, the need for an upgrade cannot be overemphasised.”
Obichukwu, however, praised the governor for paying five (5) months’ worth of salary to more than 500 airport employees who were hired by the state’s previous government.
“We applaud the governor for paying salary to more than 500 airport employees who were hired by the last government five months ago.
“We also applaud his initiative and resolve to see that Ebonyi is included on the road map/World Map of Airways. And because of this, he swiftly hired these foreign workers, and tomorrow the technical officers will start working to make sure the runway is in immaculate condition, she said.
