No nation will experience progress and prosperity, according to President Bola Tinubu, unless terrorism is entirely eradicated.
This was expressed by Tinubu while receiving Vladimir Voronkov, the under-secretary-general of the UN, on Thursday at the presidential villa in Abuja.
The president said that terrorism is a threat to democracy and that the UN has to be “more practical” in helping Nigeria combat terrorism.
The presidential media advisor, Mr. Ajuri Ngelale, said this in a statement.
“We are grateful for what you have been doing. We are aware that you are capable of much more, despite the numerous demands and difficulties, Tinubu said Ngelale.
“We can give you a ‘A’ for teamwork but a ‘B’ for physical support. You must take more action since terrorism not only poses a real threat to democracy but also to growth.
“We must eradicate terrorism before we can attain growth and prosperity. As I’ve previously stated, the where, how, and when of terrorism are the other sides of the coin that need to be equally considered.
Yusuf Tuggar, minister of foreign affairs, stated during the meeting that poverty and injustice are among of the motivating factors for the insurgency.
According to Tuggar, “Nigeria continues to make significant investments in social security and education.”
Voronkov noted in his remarks that Nigeria already has a framework for prevention, mitigation, and reconciliation and praised the government for its up to date efforts in combating terrorism.
In a productive conversation with the minister of foreign affairs, we discussed ways to further our agenda for combating international terrorism, he added. “Of course, terrorism is part of the international agenda.”
“I can only mention that Nigeria is one of the leading partners politically and in terms of building capacity on counter terrorism activities.”
