According to Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff, the Nigerian Army is completely committed to addressing any issues impeding troops’ operations in the current campaign to wipe out Boko Haram terrorists.
On Friday, while on an operational tour to the North East Theatre of Operation (OPHK), Maimalari Cantonment Maiduguri, he made this claim in a statement to journalists.
Lagbaja pointed out that President Bola Tinubu and General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, had been providing the Nigerian Army with enough assistance, and he promised that the required security measures will be done to address instability throughout the nation, not only in the Northeast.
He voiced concern at the startling rise in kidnappings, banditry, and terrorists placing Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) on roads, but he also expressed optimism that these new trends would be stopped very quickly.
When asked why he was in Borno, he responded, “Since I assumed office on June 23 of this year, I visited this theatre to celebrate Eid-El-Kabir with my troops.” I’m thus returning this time on a business visit.
“The Theatre Commander just gave me a briefing on the operational, administrative, and other security challenges. I’m here to interact physically with the troops as well so that I may learn firsthand about the difficulties facing formations and units with a view to quickly address it adequately.
The new practise of kidnapping civilians on highways and the use of IEDs to attack vehicles are two challenges that we have noticed in the theatre. “From here, I will go around all the sector headquarters in Monguno, Damaturu, among others, to hear from the troops and take necessary action.
I also took advantage of the chance to commission a brand-new, two-story structure with 30 families for Corporal and below ranks in the Nigerian Army that would be given to the recipients and their families. said Lagbaja.
