President Bola Tinubu has been urged to give certain opposition candidates who ran in the 2023 presidential election consideration for appointment to his government of unity.
The candidates made the appeal on Thursday while visiting the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, at the party office in Abuja under the auspices of the Forum of Concerned Presidential Candidates.
The delegation included Adewale Adeogun, the team’s leader, Charles Nnadi, the presidential candidate of the Action Peoples Party, Felix Osakwe, the vice-presidential candidate of the Action Democratic Party, Dr. Odey Udo, and Prof. Peter Umeadi, the nominee for the All-Progressives Grand Alliance.
In his remarks, Osakwe stated that they are not renowned for engaging in politics out of resentment. He emphasised that this was demonstrated by their unwillingness to join the bandwagon of candidates who, in the wake of the poll’s results, tried to take the president before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.
As a result, the NRM candidate urged that they be added to the campaign councils for the November 11 elections in the states of Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi, reiterating that they are ready to assist the president in the sake of inclusive politics.
Mr. Chairman, I believe you will be the best person to take us to meet with Mr. President, he added. so that we may express our own opinions to him while also informing him that it is not all the presidential candidates that were against him. We chose not to go to court because this is Nigeria. We are here to thank you and God.
“The past contenders for president are ready to provide our services to this nation. We have a request, and the party is the target. that we should be given a spot on the campaign council for the governorship elections. We convened a meeting with those of us who have piloted this. And you are expected to participate in the campaign council, according to our request. As we get ready to cast our votes in the three states in November, we think that our work is much more desired today.
“I must give the chairman two names. And we have faith that you will make it happen with our assistance, using your strength and God’s particular grace. We shall use every effort to ensure that the three states participating in the election are successful. We will mobilise our parties in those states for your party based on what we have been doing.
In response, Ganduje praised the group for backing the president’s stance in favour of an inclusive political system and a government of national unity.
The team was comforted by the APC national chairman, who also promised to bring their request to the president.
