Nyesome Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), asserts that Nigerians would have supported Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) nominee for president, if they had thought he was a superior candidate.
When questioned if Obi would have managed the country’s economic position better, Wike said that he does not want to talk about the elections any longer and added that if he had been better, Obi would have won the February 25 elections.
In an exclusive interview with Channels TV on Wednesday, he disclosed this.
“I want to talk about the economy, the President, and what he has to give. I don’t want to talk about social media concerns or presidential candidates any longer.
“If he (Obi) had been better, Nigerians would have voted for him.”
Wike said that despite being a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), there is no information to suggest that he is a minister in an APC-led administration.
He said, “I’m an unrepentant PDP member. What does it have to do with governance? Recall that in 1999, when Obasanjo and Atiku were president and vice president, they appointed the late Bola Ige, an AD member, not only as a minister of power but also as the nation’s attorney general.
So what’s new about the fact that I work for the APC government? Yes, I supported Bola Ahmed Tinubu when serving in the PDP. Did I conceal it? While working with Tinubu, I feel at ease. I have such guts because of him. He is a man who genuinely cares about the nation.
“I’m not here to serve a political party; instead, I’m here to support the president, who has faith in me to carry the message of rekindled hope. I owe no one any sort of apology. I supported Tinubu’s bid for president while I was a PDP member. Except for Rivers state, no state in the Southeast or South-South was won by the president. We have no regrets.
“Tinubu is my superior. He nominated me, he established my schedule, and he provided the blueprint for what I wanted to do in Abuja. I want to follow it exactly.
