According to the Anambra State Police Command, a four-man gang that targets state-wide stores for robbery has been apprehended.
The police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed this in a statement on Thursday, adding that the Ogidi Division agents nabbed the group as a result of a tip-off on Wednesday.
The four suspects, who are all from Ebonyi State, were detained, according to Ikenga, and two motorbikes, two huge generators, one wheelbarrow, a deep freezer, three sacks of rice, and two large iron cutters were found on them.
He said, “A four-man burglary gang that preys on business establishments around the state has been nabbed by police in Ogidi, Anambra State.
“After receiving a tip-off on August 30, the police assaulted the gang’s hideaway and sealed it off to stop any members from fleeing.
The following things were found on the four suspects, all of whom were from the state of Ebonyi: two bikes for women, two huge generators, a wheelbarrow, a deep freezer, three sacks of rice, and two massive iron cutters.
During questioning, the suspects admitted to breaking into a business at Nanka in the Anambra State local government area of Orumba North to take the things that had been found.
He continued, “The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, asked the staff not to relent in their pursuit of criminal elements. He commended the new Divisional Police Officer in Ogidi, CSP Uche Onyinaya, for hitting the ground running, having earlier arrested and recovered a Baretta pistol from a cultist.
“The CP has ordered that an investigation be expanded to the Nanka community to find the store’s owner and the motor licencing office for records of owners of the motorcycles,” he continued. “The goal is to return the recovered items to the rightful owners on bond while the suspects are to be arraigned in court as soon as investigation is complete.”
