Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, has encouraged African leaders to concentrate on what is causing the current rise in military coups throughout the continent.
On Thursday, Atiku made this claim in response to the coup in Gabon on his official X handle.
He underlined that the Gabon coup is the seventh in Africa since 2020 and expressed his concern about the trend of military coups on the continent.
“The Gabon coup is condemned. A preferred type of government for many people is democracy and democratic administration.
“The latest coup brings the number of military takeovers in Central and West Africa to 8 since 2020. This is worrisome. We may have to focus on dealing with the disease and not the symptoms that birth coups,” he tweeted.
