Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja Minister Nyesom Wike has said that the FCTA is contemplating supporting transit and food supply with the N5 billion palliative it has received from the Federal Government.
After a meeting behind closed doors with contractors overseeing various projects in the FCT, Wike announced this in Abuja on Monday.
To lessen the effects of the elimination of the petrol subsidy, the Federal Government earlier this month approved a N5 billion palliative for each state of the federation, including the FCT.
While waiting for the remaining N3 billion, several state governments have acknowledged getting N2 billion from the total.
The FCT was not, according to the minister, included in the N5 billion palliative until he sent a message to President Bola Tinubu advising him of the circumstance.
He stated that Tinubu had authorised the sum, that other states had already gotten N2 billion, and that he was certain the FCT would follow suit shortly.
We haven’t made a decision yet about what to do with the N2 billion palliative, though. We haven’t decided on a location yet.
“Are we going to focus on food, but we believe that the problem of transportation, particularly urban mass transit, is very, very vital.
If you offer them rice and they eat the rice today, what about transportation tomorrow? them want to travel easily to get where they need to go.
We still haven’t decided how we’re going to spend the money, he continued, but I think transit and food assistance are crucial.
