As part of efforts to maintain the city clean, Mr. Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, says the government has finalised preparations to restore monthly sanitation.
Following a meeting behind closed doors with contractors overseeing various projects in the FCT, Wike said this in Abuja on Monday.
He claimed to have previously informed President Bola Tinubu on the plan to set aside at least two Saturdays every month from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. for cleanliness.
He said that the action would allow businesses that provide logistical assistance to the FCT to travel to markets and allow other public areas to remove trash.
Wike stated that for Abuja to be clean, everyone must work together.
“We must all give up something. Nothing can compare to the suffering we will experience. You also add to the trash.
“So, the little thing you can do to help is to clean the trash and bring it outside so we can evacuate and dispose of it for three hours on a Saturday.
He continued, “We are asking you (the citizens) to work with us so we can accomplish our objectives.
The minister mentioned several advancements in lighting.
“Everywhere in Abuja will be lit up,” he assured them, “but we are not there yet.”
Wike promised that the matter will be quickly resolved for individuals who have misrepresented the Abuja Master Plan.
