Chicago State University in the US has made its X page private after certain Nigerians are said to have accessed it to find out whether President Bola Tinubu indeed received a degree from the school.
This comes after Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, petitioned a US court for information on Tinubu’s academic standing at Chicago State University.
When I checked the page on Tuesday, it had been changed from Public to Private with the notice “These posts are protected. The entire profiles and posts of @ChicagoState are only visible to verified followers. To follow someone, use the Follow icon.
Stated that Tinubu did, in fact, attend the institution in January 2022 after receiving confirmation from the school.
“Mr. Tinubu did attend our university, but if further information is needed, go to studentclearinghouse.org website to make a formal request,” Beverly Poindexter, who oversees official transcript requests, enrolment, and degree verification at the Office of the Registrar, CSU, wrote in a curt email response.
The institution claimed that Tinubu attended there from 1977 to 1979 in a previous letter dated August 20, 1999 and signed by the registrar at the time, Lois Davis.
Please be notified that Bola A. Tinubu did in fact study at Chicago State University from August 1977 to June 1979, he said in his letter. On June 22, 1979, he received a Bachelor of Science in Business and Administration with honours. His area of study was accounting.
A letter of congratulations from CSU praising Tinubu’s performance and “high scholastic achievement” was also included with his form CF004 submission to the Independent National Electoral Commission in 2003 when he ran for governor again.
Concerns about Tinubu’s academic background have been for a while, particularly in the wake of the general election in 2023.
