According to a Brand Finance City Index analysis from 2023, Lagos is the fifth best African city overall for people to live, work, and invest in.
The article claims that Lagos, Nigeria’s economic hub, came in last in a survey, receiving just 56.7% of the vote, trailing only the top four African cities, Cape Town, South Africa (62.9%), Cairo, Egypt (60.7%), Johannesburg, South Africa (59.5%), and Casablanca, Morocco (59.3%).
Cape Town, Cairo, Johannesburg, Casablanca, Lagos, and Nairobi are the only six African nations that are included among the top 100 cities in the world, respectively at positions 60, 67, 72, 76, 90, and 94 on the list.
London, England, is said to have the finest city brand in the world, according to the rating, earning 84.6%, followed by New York, the United States, and Paris, France, which score 83.0 and 79.7%, respectively.
“The ranking is based on a global survey of close to 15,000 members of the public conducted in April 2023 in 20 countries on all continents to measure perceptions of the world’s top 100 cities,” the research said.
David Haigh, Chairman and CEO of Brand Finance, commented on the poll, saying that London’s outstanding success in the Index may be attributable to its widespread familiarity.
“Being first on this specific metric gives London a substantial edge over its competitors and contributes to its success in the overall rating as the finest city in the world.
Knowing a city helps people have good opinions of it, identify its reputation, and think of it as the best location to retire, live, work, study, visit, or invest.
High familiarity leads to a better appreciation of its merits and a wider audience for its appeal, enabling the city to reap substantial economic benefits from inward migration, investment, and tourism.
