The Southwest States Park Management Committee is believed to have plotted to foment violence in Abuja, the nation’s capital, and assault the Southwest States Park Management Committee’s national secretariat, which is located in Garki 2, Abuja, according to a new warning from the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
The NURTW claimed in a joint statement on Monday that these plotters intended to stage a protest against the outcomes of the just-concluded 10th Quadrennial National Delegate Conference of the union, which took place in Lafia, Nasarawa State last week. The statement was signed by the President, Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa, and the General Secretary, Anthony Asogwa Chukwudi.
The union asserted that the demonstration is a front for causing disorder and mayhem among people of the FCT.
“We have it on good authority that this group has already imported thugs to carry out their schemes and invade our National Secretariat,” the statement stated.
“This planned protest is nothing more than a calumny campaign against the union leadership with the sole purpose of creating confusion and inciting trouble.”
According to the NURTW, the group’s claimed plan calls for them to pose as unhappy union members in order to organise a violent demonstration and engage in other nefarious actions.
The union asserts that the gang recently conducted a strategy meeting at a hotel in Wuye and sent several goons into Abuja last saturday.
“We cannot support any unlawful behaviour by these irate individuals.
“We have properly alerted the police and other pertinent security organisations about this group’s planned operations. We are also utilising this platform to warn the public and exhort everyone to exercise caution, the statement continued.
The NURTW urged the suspected conspirators to change their minds and stop what they were doing. The union is also requesting that the security authorities take immediate action to avoid a potential loss of law and order in the region.
These individuals only seek to incite violence in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT); they are not members of our organisation. We are utilising this platform to urge the security organisations to step up and stop breakdown of law and order,” the NURTW stated.
