The Police Service Commission (PSC) has retired four Deputy Inspectors General of Police as a result of a delay in upholding treasured traditions of discipline and the regimented culture of the Police.
DIGs like Dan-Mallam Mohammed, DIG, are impacted. DIG. Moses Ambakina Jitiboh As well as DIG Adeleke Adeyinka Bode and Hafiz Mohammed Inuwa.
Giving additional justifications for their retirements, the PSC stated, “In light of the acting Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun’s appointment on June 19, 2023, by Mr. President, the Commission had anticipated that those DIGS who were seniors in rank prior to his elevation will voluntarily apply for retirement or elect to leave the Nigeria Police Force.
The Commission decided to compulsorily retire them after waiting a sufficient amount of time without receiving any such application from any of them in order to uphold the Force’s core value of discipline and to deter status reversals, which are inherently hostile to the Inspector General’s exercise of authority.
According to the Third Schedule, Part 1 M, paragraphs A and B of the 1999 Constitution, as well as Section 6 of the Commissions (Establishment) Act 2001, paragraphs a, c, d, e, and f, “The Police Service Commission acted in exercise of its statutory powers, pursuant to the Third Schedule, Part 1 M, paragraphs A and B of the 1999 Constitution.”
Accordingly, it has been ordered that the previous DIGs immediately begin their mandatory retirement with effect from Friday, August 25, 2023.
“The Commission respects their significant contributions to the stability and security of our nation and wishes them well in their post-retirement pursuits.
The Commission also approved the appointment of four Assistant Inspectors General of Police to the rank of Deputy Inspectors General of Police, which would be subject to approval by the Board of the Commission. The statement was issued under the signature of Ikechukwu Ani, the Commission’s spokesman.
The newly appointed DIGs were chosen from the same respective geopolitical zones as the retiring ones, provided they had no pending disciplinary matters, no major medical issues, and/or no health impairments.
They are Usman Nagogo, Daniel Sokari-Pedro, Ayuba Ekpeji, and Ibrahim Sani Ka’oje of the DIG.
While congratulating them on reaching the prestigious rank of DIG, the Commission expressed its optimism that their appointment would strengthen the Nigeria Police’s efforts to carry out its mandate.
