Police officers in the nation have been admonished not to tarnish the reputation of the police service with corruption by Inspector General of Police (IG) Kayode Egbetokun.
224 freshly promoted officers of the Police Command in Ondo State were being decorated when Egbetokun issued the warning in Akure, the capital of Ondo state.
Speaking via Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Ebong Ebong, the Inspector General (IG) of Zone 17, which includes the states of Ondo and Ekiti, pledged that officials who commit errors will face consequences.
“To whom much is given, much is expected,” he said. You need to take your obligations seriously now that you are in that position. Be respectful but fair while performing your tasks. Take control of your responsibilities starting now.
“Starting today, get rid of that inspector playfulness. Demonstrate your seniority as a police officer. Keep your pride and dignity in tact.
“Remember, we are living in the internet’s ICT era. As a result, you must constantly treat others with respect and courtesy. You should be aware that the IG does not support corruption.
“Make every effort to avoid tarnishing the police’s reputation for integrity. We will recognise efficiency and hard work, but we won’t hold back when it comes to disciplining incompetent police.
“Do your best and respect human rights; the police’s excesses are being checked,” was the instruction. Follow the law and carry out your obligations.
The inspector general of police stated that 73 of the new policemen had received confirmation, but the other ones had not.
They were tasked by Egbetokun to make every effort to guarantee the legitimacy of their new ranks.
Taiwo Jesubiyi, the state police commissioner, had earlier remarked, “Starting today, know what to say, where you go, and what you should do. Junior ones will look up to you as a mirror. You must adjust psychologically, socially, and even ethically.
One of the new officers, ASP Tobi Arowojolu, responded by pledging his unwavering support for the Police Force and his intention to give his all in the performance of his responsibilities.
