Professor Onyemachi Ogbulu, the vice chancellor of Abia State University Uturu, has issued a strong warning to students saying that engaging in cultism, hard drugs, cheating on exams, indecent attire, and other vices will result in expulsion from the university.
Professor Ogbulu, who Friday delivered the riot act at the university’s 41st matriculation ceremony in Uturu, also cautioned students against spreading false information and damaging the school’s reputation on social media.
The VC invited students to come forward with any reports of harassment or intimidation to his office, saying that the institution’s management has zero tolerance for any act of abusing or exploiting students.
In order to repay their parents’ efforts, the incoming students were exhorted by the vice chancellor to pursue their academic careers with integrity, dedication, and resolve.
He reaffirmed the institution’s dedication to producing graduates of the highest calibre.
Professor Ogbulu emphasised the relevance of all academic fields and cautioned parents from pressuring their kids or wards to enrol in a subject they are uninterested in.
The VC reported that 4,546 students were enrolled in the institution’s various programmes, including 4,404 regular students, 100 Institute for Continuing Education (ICE), and 42 Postgraduates.
He advised people who wanted to join in the institution, meanwhile, to look into other admissions opportunities so they may read their selected line of study.
The VC praised Gov. Alex Otti, the university’s visitor, for his numerous prompt actions since taking office in regards to essential support arrears “that have enabled the university to navigate the current rough terrains of education in Nigeria.”
He expressed optimism that the institution would soon witness another era of glory and transformation under the watch of Gov. Otti.
Earlier in a sermon entitled:”Fulfilling the Expectations Over Your Life “, Venerable Ugochukwu Ihechukwu, enjoined the students not to fail in the expectations of their parents, society and the institution from them.
He noted that hard work, determination, diligence and godliness are needed for one to meet expectations.
“For you to meet expectations upon you, you must be diligent in your studies, stop pressing the phone, and set goals for yourself because success does not come by mere wishes.
” Check the companies you keep; obey authorities; don’t forget God; remain focused; and you will be celebrated when you meet expectations “.
