Senator David Umahi, the minister of works, has voiced his displeasure with the calibre of the work completed on the Abuja-Lokoja route.
In an encounter with contractors on Wednesday in Abuja, Umahi criticised the calibre of the work done at the sites he visited, including the Abuja-Lokoja Road and the Lokoja-Benin Road.
Additionally, he threatened to revoke the contractors’ employment certificates if they departed any site in any region of the nation.
“I have examined roughly eight projects on the Abuja–Lokoja roads, and I was disappointed with what I saw,” Umahi stated. How is it possible to get paid to accomplish something if you didn’t do it correctly? Do you folks have any fear of God? We must work for the people rather than for ourselves.
“They stayed for more than a week the last time there was a water overflow here. You see, based on my judgement, I believe that there was a food deficit in Abuja due to a medical emergency, a food shortfall, and a fuel supply constraint.
So, in the first place, we ought to have been able to construct this and then use a ramp to lift it. believing that we will complete it tomorrow. Therefore, except from the bridge, the contractor won’t work on this portion of the road.
Umahi reaffirmed the President’s charge to complete Nigeria’s road infrastructure. Therefore, the initiative to make Nigerian roads motorable will not be pursued as a holy cow.
He urged all contractors to adopt concrete pavement while building Nigerian roads, arguing that the technique gives the country long-lasting roadways that can be used.
