In light of the safety of corps members, veteran Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw has advocated for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme to be abandoned.
Consider the recent kidnapping of eight NYSC participants along a highway in Zamfara State.
Henshaw responded on Wednesday through Twitter, stating that the plan should be abandoned because the security of Corps members was no longer assured.
“Stop putting the lives of young people at risk with moribund ideas,” she pleaded with the government.
“I served in the North, and it was a very memorable experience,” the actor wrote. It was safe to take a road trip from Bauchi to the airport and then fly to Lagos using only my NYSC ID card, which also qualified me for a discount on my ticket.
Since corpers cannot travel freely across this nation, it is time to drop the idea.
Stop endangering young people’s life with outdated concepts. Security is a top concern that must be resolved completely, not just technically.
