Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), said the army will conduct more trainings to rekindle the combat spirit of soldiers taking part in numerous operations across the nation.
On Wednesday, Lagbaja gave a speech at the beginning of a one-day seminar for members of the Nigerian Army 6 Division that was hosted by the army’s Department of Transformation and Innovation in Port Harcourt.
The conference’s focus was on “Intensifying Warrior Ethos, Regimentation in the Nigerian Army, Management of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and Drug Substance Abuse.”
According to him, the nation is presently dealing with a wide range of complicated security challenges, and it is up to troops to find solutions.
The army needs to keep reviewing its tactics, techniques, and procedures in order to find workable solutions that will allow it to defeat the enemies using both kinetic and non-kinetic means.
The prevalence of drug and alcohol misuse as well as PTSD among troops stationed in the country’s various theatres of operations is also concerning to us.
In order to retain combat efficiency, he said, “these concerns required that troops be sensitised to the effect of drug and substance abuse and management of the stress disorder.”
According to Lagbaja, it is crucial for army leaders at all levels to focus their efforts on reviving the combat spirit of all the soldiers under their leadership.
Without discipline, which serves as the foundation for all other components of military regimentation, this cannot be accomplished.
“Regimentation aids in fostering the comradery, unity, and discipline necessary for the execution of military missions.
By using creative thinking, critical thinking, and actionable solutions based on his command philosophy, he continued, “this seminar seeks to rekindle the warrior spirit and regimentation in all commanders and their troops.”
The seminar, according to the army chief, will also be utilised to revive the fundamentals of soldering while strictly upholding army traditions, customs, and ethics.
He said that the army under his command had taken concrete steps to enhance its operational performance, leadership, and management, which were the key components of his mission statement.
President Bola Tinubu’s constitutional democratic government and the interests of well-intentioned Nigerians would continue to enjoy the army’s loyalty, according to Lagbaja.
